A permit to reside in Mauritius can be applied for by retired non-citizens who are at least 50 years old. There are some monetary restrictions. An initial payment to their local bank account in Mauritius of at least USD1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency is required. Following that, a monthly transfer of the same amount is required. A minimum of USD54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency must be accumulated over the course of the permit's ten-year validity period. At the end of each year, the EDB must receive proof of the financial transfers.
